Addressing the rural food crisis in Koochiching County with dignity and compassion

Struggling to meet your food needs? We can help.

KCFA is the primary organization working to end food insecurity and hunger in Koochiching County. We provide food, free of cost, to anyone struggling to meet their food needs. We believe all people in our community should have reliable access to affordable food with as few barriers as possible. As grocery prices continue to soar, KCFA can provide food support for you and your household.

There was a time when a food shelf center was a place to volunteer for many of us, but times have changed. The prices of food are shocking and so I have come to the food shelf as a first step and then going to the grocery store afterwards. I always experience kindness and dignity without questions and I appreciate that. I love all the choices that are offered for whatever your needs are. I’m so grateful and don’t know what I would do without you. Thank you so very much!”

What We Do

Koochiching County  is characterized by high rates of food insecurity, defined by the USDA as “lack of access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life.” Food insecurity in Koochiching County is conditioned by factors that are common to many rural areas of Minnesota: systemic poverty, low population density, an aging population, large geographic area, and fewer community resources. KCFA works to address these intertwined issues through our four core program areas:

1.

Food Shelf
Program

2.

School Pantry
Program

3.

Food
Distribution

Supporting a vital community service

KCFA would not be able to provide these vital services without the support of our community. From financial support to food donations to volunteer time and beyond, we rely on our community partnerships to help us continue fulfilling our vision of a food-secure Koochiching County. Every year we are grateful for the widespread local support we receive, and we work hard to make sure the resources entrusted to us are utilized wisely.
