How you can support rural food access
Food Shelf
The main program at KCFA is our food shelf program. Our food shelves participate in the TEFAP federal program and we make our best attempt to offer a variety of free food and goods at all locations including: frozen meats, milk, frozen meals, feminine hygiene products and household items. To be eligible for this program, shoppers must be income eligible (income at or below 300% of federal poverty level).
Food Distribution
KCFA partners with Second Harvest North Central Food Bank to host three food distributions in Koochiching County: International Falls, Littlefork and Big Falls. Food distributions became popular during COVID and are an effective alternate method to distribute large quantities of food.
School Programs
KCFA partners with local schools to operate smaller food pantries at the following schools: Falls High, Indus and Littlefork/ Big Falls. These pantries are funded by KCFA and operated by school staff and teachers. These pantries are available to any student or staff in need of food.
Ride2Food
Ride2Food is our most recent program addition. This program funds on-demand rides from anywhere in Koochiching County to our International Falls location. This program was developed directly in response to shopper feedback that transportation is a top barrier to accessing our services.
NAPS
KCFA is a distribution site for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), formerly known as NAPS. This program provides a free box of food each month to low-income seniors 60 years of age and over.
